Virtual Profiles ​

A virtual profile is a synthesized GPR-like radargram drawn along an arbitrary path across the survey area. Geolitix builds it from your real data: as the path crosses the survey it samples the nearest acquired traces and interpolates between them, producing a 2D profile you can inspect and interpret as though it had been collected along that line.

Creating a virtual profile ​

Right-click in the 3D model view and choose Start virtual profile. Left-click to add each node along the path, and drag an existing node to reshape it. Once there are at least two nodes, a floating Finish (checkmark) button appears; press it to build the profile. Press Esc to cancel.

When the profile is built the view switches to 2D — virtual profiles are not shown in 3D.

Modes ​

  • Single (spine) — a single virtual profile running along the path you drew.
  • Cuts (cross-sections) — a series of short, straight cross-sections placed perpendicular to the path. Two parameters control the cuts, both in the project location unit:
    • Step distance — the spacing between cuts along the path.
    • Width — the total length of each perpendicular cut.

Working with the result ​

Cuts are shown in a scrollable 2D carousel with a live readout of Distance, X, Y, Z and amplitude as you move over the profile.

With the point-interpretation editing tool active and an interpretation selected, you can place, move and delete interpretation points directly on the virtual profile. These points are snapped and saved back onto the real GPR channel they correspond to — not onto the synthetic profile — so they persist in the project like any other interpretation.

Limits ​

  • A virtual profile is capped at 16,000 traces. Beyond this the profile reports "Profile length exceeds the maximum allowed length".
  • All sampled traces must come from the same device type; otherwise the profile reports that the profiles for the selected track are not consistent.
  • A GPR profiles layer must be present in the model. Editing interpretations on a virtual profile requires project edit permission.
